Snazzy Scarves that Create Opportunity
Who doesn't need a scarf? Either to keep your neck warm or to spice up an outfit - fashionABLE has you covered. This is a great company looking to provide opportunity and dignity to women in Africa.
"Your purchase of a fashionABLE scarf creates sustainable business in Africa. We are committed to long-term solutions to fighting poverty, and our main focus is creating opportunities for vulnerable women. That means that your purchase of a scarf creates jobs, so that the women are not dependent upon charity, but instead are a vital part of a developing economy.
So our strategy is two-fold. We work with women to help them start small business cooperatives, and we partner with and require manufacturers to also employ women with fair wages & fair hiring practices."
They also make leather products.
Experiment #1: Coconut Milk
Alternative Milk Latte Experiment
There's nothing like a great cup of coffee or latte for your morning ritual or afternoon pick me up. Ok - tea drinkers may have a point, but that's a whole different set of posts. We're talking about caffeine pay out here. So, in an attempt to find a milk alternative we'll be experimenting from time to time with different milk like options. Others have done a great job at comparing them all at once - so if you need to know quickly or like to read the last chapter first, check out The Milk Chronicles or From Scratch.
For consistency (this is important science) and convenience we'll be using a Nespresso machine and capsules with an Aeroccino frother.
First up - Coconut Milk. Right off the bat - the froth is nonexistent. So if froth is important to you, bye bye coconut milk. The taste is decent enough and it certainly is creamy. But it definitely has a taste and by the end of the cup dairy was being longed for. One major plus however was that the coconut milk made very good strawberry milk and amazing rice pudding! Maybe we'll try almond milk next.
Taaluma Totes
Need a new back pack? Check out Taaluma Totes. Each backpack funds a microloan for a person in the country where its fabric originated. Currently they are using fabrics from Ghana, Indonesia, and Uganda, but it sounds like that list will soon be expanding. Love the idea. "Carry Taaluma, Carry a Country!"
Threads 4 Thought
With much of the US still in a deep freeze, and being only 1 month into winter, we're going to highlight Threads 4 Thought. They make stylish comfy clothes to keep you warm and looking great. Plus they use sustainable materials and ethically minded manufacturing. All things we can get on board with! And since we're from the midwest - being warm and ending sentences with prepositions are things we like to do!
Replace the pile
Now that the gifts are opened and the mess was made, next year you can do better. You gave great things! Your wrapping should reflect that. Now it can!
Top of production
We just received two production pieces to make sure everything is ship shape before our first run is started. They look great! It won't be long until we are ready to sell.
3, 2, 1...we have ignition...blast off!!
This is an exciting time here at enfold. After a year of planning, cutting, sewing, measuring, cutting, sewing, planning, drawing, ordering, cutting, printing and sewing we're finally at the launch stage. We've assembled a great team and are proud to enter the Made in the USA, economic development, and sustainable products marketplaces. As such we hope to use our blog space to highlight like minded companies and keep you up to date with what is happening at enfold central.
